Leila 03:59
Leila, I can’t move it’s too heavy, no But Leila won’t let us stay here no more No morning star if we get caught Leila, I can’t move it’s too heavy, no But Leila won’t let us stay here no more No morning star if we get caught - Torn asunder by thunder on a clear night Star light, star bright Secretly wonder why there are no street lights Star bright, star light Asking them how but wondering why Just to be told don’t you cry, don’t cry, my little eye Sun on the mountain and blood in the sky Who said we’re gonna be alright? Well… Leila, I can’t move it’s too heavy, no But Leila won’t let us stay here no more No morning star if we get caught - Over the hills and into the town Five days don’t make a sound We’re not homeward bound In the rain stained rooms, ‘bout to be pulled down With others that they found, oh that they found, hey This worthless leatherbound curse of my kind It’s colour won’t let us inside I said it’s colour won’t let us inside But we could make it to the island, lord, even make it there alive but At home we’ll surely At home we’ll surely At home we’ll surely… You could even bet your bottom dollar that we’ll… But Leila, I can’t move, it’s too heavy, no But Leila won’t let us stay here no more, No morning star if we get caught, oh

Release Me 06:00
Well I’m sitting in the pouring rain Treetops hang their heads in shame Everybody’s got someone to blame But it all sounds uniquely the same Even I to those that came before me I got nothin’ new to say My brain’s a sore mess anyway I pulled an outlaw from his grave And covered up the mess I made With wet flowers and a card that reads ‘forgive me’ But that’s ‘cause times they did not change, no A different view not rearranged Children sing the same refrains And gods still throw their men in chains From the clouds can’t hear their cries Release Me, Oh, release Me, Release Me Ooh… The flower-sellers on Main Street bed down for the night And the colour-drained hounds move into the light Cathy’s uptown but she knows what it’s like ‘Cause the sea to the centre heaves with the sight But I aint asking you or anyone to just believe me And Davey screamed, he wanted out Land bare-bones from a drought Well he left a note, ‘gone walkabout’ And to the sea he did shout Release me, Oh, release me, Release me Oooh…. (Solo) Candles light the square like stars And many thousand people march Kids wave signs at passing cars But we don’t give a fuck if it ain’t in our backyard And crayon hands hold crayon bars Tiny tears wash undrawn scars Little lips they move apart And for the thousandth time pray to the stars Release me, Oh release me, Release me… Oooh…. Well I’m sitting in the pouring rain Treetops hang their heads in shame Everybody’s got someone to blame But it all sounds uniquely the same Even I to those that came before me

Mama 05:17
Mama, can’t you see, Oh that the weight of this sorrow is slowly drowning me And Mama, I ran from you But I ain’t got no freedom till I’m not hearing this blue Mama…. I ain’t going down with you Mama… Don’t go the way of your man from Broome Mama, think I’ve found me a man But I ain’t gonna let you take him right out of my hand And Mama, I know I’m born of a small land I’ll be damned if I spend my whole life with my head in the sand Mama… I ain’t going down with you Mama… Don’t go the way of your man from Broome (cello solo) Mama… I ain’t going down with you Mama… Don’t go the way of your man from Broome

Aurelia 06:11
Aurelia, How I long to tell you just how loved you are And though you may see your shadow cast, Well it’s striding up to meet you in the morning but it’s melted away after dark But I’ve no answers, I can’t tell you if you will make it out alive Though not from want of trying And I know, that life’s been a burden and unbearably strange So I’ll just sit with you and pray That the morning brings a little change Well Aurelia, I know it’s selfish but won’t you hold out another day Aurelia, You the only daughter For miles of wire fences and brothers why won’t your mother see what life has taught her And though I’m barely more than a child I can comprehend how something done by somebody so young can take a lifetime to mend But I’ve no cure, I can’t tell you if you will make it out alive Though not from want of trying And I know, that life’s been a burden and unbearably strange So I’ll just sit with you and pray That the morning brings a little change Well Aurelia I know it’s selfish but won’t you hold out another day Late one Tuesday, How did you know Where and how it ended with the lights all out, and nobody home And I’m amazed by Your courage when you knew it was the garage and how you put us to sleep at night I know his assurances come to you in dreams And you can hear his laughter from the living room it seems Oh but what right have I to write of such things? Well Aurelia I only hope that when the dog days come you think of me Oh Aurelia I only hope that when the dog days come you think of me Oh Aurelia I only hope that when the dog days come you think of me

about

The Lowlands Canberra, Australia

Formed in Canberra in early 2016, the Lowlands write cleared-eyed, bittersweet folk songs. Coloured by the band's love of jazz and blues, their music is for drinking to, dancing to, or when you feel like you've got the rough end of the pineapple.

Their debut self-titled EP was released in December 2016, and they have since been enjoying bringing the EP to the stage with their intimate live show.
